Self-care techniques
self-massage
While massage is often understood as having a giver and a receiver, a healthy practitioner understands the importance of self-care, as without a healthy practitioner there is no healthy discipline. This is as true for massage as it is for all other moving crafts.
In this short series, Barbara demonstrates different techniques that focus on awakening the body from the inside, stimulating the flow of fluids and energy such that the body’s own systems can play their rightful part in maintaining the organism. The techniques involved come from eastern disciplines, and focus on stimulating the body’s own power through gentle but persuasive stimulation.

Warm Up
Warming up seems like a basic task, and part of almost any physical activity. One might wonder why it is treated as its own discipline here. Warming up, however, from the perspective of holistic disciplines, is a task that involves full body stimulation, and can encourage better organ functioning, breathing, and improve all aspects of the being, including awareness and focus; things we might not usually consider part of physical activity. Based on eastern practices and principles, Barbara’s take on warming up is gentle, but thorough, and worthy of further investigation.
taijiquan (tai chi)
The discipline we in the west know as Tai Chi is more authentically referred to as taijiquan. Taijiquan has a unique place in moving crafts, as it is originally considered to be a martial art. However, the discipline and benefits go much deeper than that. Explore this life-giving practice through the teaching of an advanced and traditional teacher and enjoy the many benefits it brings.
